Siberian EDGE

26 Nov 2004

The Russian mobile operator CTeK GSM, which offers services in the Kuzbass region of Siberia, has contracted Alcatel to upgrade its network with EDGE technology. The French equipment manufacturer will perform a simple software activation to EDGE-enable CTeK’s existing network of Alcatel-supplied 900MHz and 1800MHz Evolium base stations. The firm will also add new base stations to extend the coverage and service quality of the system. CTeK plans to launch its first high speed EDGE mobile data services by mid-2005.
