Arcom must wait for mobile launch date

26 Nov 2004

New Argentinian cellco Argentina Comunicaciones (Arcom) has unveiled plans to invest USD100 million in launching its wireless network in the country during the first half of 2005. Speaking to BNamericas, Arcom president Antonio Roncoroni said that most of the investment would be concentrated on specific geographic areas including the capital Buenos Aires. The company does not have a launch date, as it must wait for major mobile operator Telefónica Móviles to return part of its spectrum to the Argentinian government before it is allowed to operate in the wireless market. The startup was formed by cooperative telephony associations Fecosur and Fecotel.
