Strong 3Q gains for MTS

Russian cellco Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) has reported a third quarter profit of USD338.3 million, up from USD155.7 million for the same period of 2003, beating analysts’ predictions of around USD279.9 million. The company, which has operations in the Ukraine, Belarus and Uzbekistan as well as Russia, added a total of 12.13 million subscribers in the first nine months of 2004 to take its customer base to 26.63 million. Average revenue per user (ARPU) stood at USD14 in Russia, and USD15.40 in the Ukraine while the average monthly churn rate stood at 6.7% in Russia and 5.9% in the Ukraine.
