The government of Australia’s Northern Territory has begun inviting bids from equipment vendors for a major contract to upgrade its communications network with VoIP equipment. The regional authority is keen to reduce its long-distance carrier charges and has set aside around AUD100 million for the contract which it hopes will cover all voice and data requirements for the 250 government sites and 180 schools in the Northern Territory.
