mmO2 sets year-end as deadline for i-mode decision

23 Nov 2004

UK-based mobile operator mmO2 says it will decide on whether or not to offer NTT DoCoMo’s proprietary i-mode service in all its markets by the end of 2004. mmO2 is reviewing the Japanese company’s technology for launch across all its operations, including Germany. The German market has been a sticking point as DoCoMo already has an agreement with KPN of the Netherlands to provide i-mode there. The Japanese cellco prefers only one operator to be licensed to offer its service in any single country.
