3G in China needs an Olympic effort

23 Nov 2004

China cannot afford any more delays in its 3G development programme in the run-up to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, according to the Chinese branch of market research house IDC. A manager at the company said that the country’s 3G network will take at least three years to become fully efficient, making it imperative that China launches it in 2005 to avoid problems in providing 3G services to the many Olympic participants and visitors in 2008. China has the world’s largest wireless market with around 300 million mobile subscribers.
