Broadband on the up in Chile

19 Nov 2004

Figures released in a new study suggest that the number of broadband connections in Chile grew by 8.5% in the third quarter. The study, which was carried out by Cisco Systems Chile and IDC and reported at BNamericas, also says that broadband lines increased by 35% in the twelve months to the end of September. The corporate and education sectors were behind much of the growth, with the number of connections to educational establishments alone up 140% year-on-year. Chile is expected to have around 500,000 broadband lines in service by the end of the year, with penetration standing at approximately 2.5 connections per 100 inhabitants.
