Telstra switches platforms to launch Blackberry

18 Nov 2004

Telstra plans to launch a Blackberry device on its CDMA2000 1xRTT network next month. The telco initially launched Blackberry on its GSM-based GPRS network, but the company has since reviewed its decision and instead opted to launch it over its CDMA 1xRTT and EV-DO network, which it now regards as its principal platform for corporate users. Telstra’s CDMA network has wider coverage, opening up the possibility for greater regional coverage. Telstra claims around 15,500 Blackberry users on its network, a figure which it says is rising by around 1,000 per month.
