Swedish equipment supplier Ericsson has announced a USD90 million CDMA2000 1x expansion contract with China Unicom. Ericsson is supplying core and radio network equipment plus training and technical support in the provinces of Jiangsu, Yunnan, Heilongjiang and Liaoning. Ericsson says deployment has already been completed and was undertaken by its local joint venture Nanjing Ericsson Panda Communications. The Swedish company won a similar CDMA2000 1x expansion deal with Unicom in Sichuan Province earlier this year. Unicom had 107.4 million subscribers and a 35% share of the Chinese mobile market at the end of September. Around 24% of its customers connect via CDMA networks.
