Malaysian wireless operator DiGi Telecommunications will spend MYR125 million (USD33 million) upgrading its existing network with EDGE-enabled technology, according to a press statement from the company. DiGi’s infrastructure partners Siemens and Ericsson have begun implementing the equipment upgrade, which will expand the cellco’s existing EDGE network beyond the Klang Valley region of Malaysia to provide much wider coverage across the country’s other states by early 2005. DiGi, owned by Norwegian telecoms group Telenor, reported a mobile subscriber base of 2,806,000 on 30 September 2004.
