Handset manufacturer selects Ericsson

12 Nov 2004

Chinese handset manufacturer Amoi Mobile has contracted Swedish equipment vendor Ericsson to supply its U100 dual mode W-CDMA technology platform. The deal marks the second deal between the two companies following the April 2004 contract under which Amoi took delivery of Ericsson’s G100 and G200 platform products for integration into its GSM and GPRS terminals. Amoi Mobile was created in 2003 and is a subsidiary of Amoi Electronics, the company founded in 1981 in Fujian as a TV manufacturer which has since expanded into communications and IT products. Amoi began making GSM handsets in 2001 and is one of the ten largest Chinese handset companies with about 6% of the market. Amoi had 2003 revenues of CNY6.8 billion (USD821 million), up 51.9% from 2002.
