Taiwan’s dominant operator Chunghwa Telecom has announced net profits of TWD4.17 billion for the month of October, with revenues of TWD15.1 billion, almost 40% of which came from mobile telephony. The company says profits for the ten months to the end of October stood at TWD43.45 billion, resulting in net earnings per share (EPS) of TWD4.50, exceeding its own forecast of TWD4.31. Chunghwa had 2.98 million ADSL subscribers at the end of last month, more than 52% of which use its 2Mbps service.
Meanwhile, two of Taiwan’s three other mobile operators have released their own profits figures. Number two operator Taiwan Cellular said net profits for the ten months to the end of October were TWD17.32 billion, with net EPS of TWD3.29, while Far EasTone had pre-tax profits of TWD13.87 billion and EPS of TWD3.69. Chunghwa claimed 35.3% of Taiwan’s 23 million mobile subscribers at the end of June, while Taiwan Cellular and Far EasTone had market shares of 34.2% and 22.9% respectively.
