Conecel, Ecuador’s leading wireless operator, has revealed plans to expand its mobile customer base by a million through a USD77 million expansion agreement with Nokia. The Finnish equipment supplier will expand and modernise Conecel’s domestic GSM/EDGE network. The new infrastructure is expected to be operational by the end of 2004. Conecel offers TDMA and CDMA services in Ecuador under the brand name Porta Celular. At the end of June 2004 it claimed 1.8 million customers.
