Nokia aiming for 40% share

5 Nov 2004

Nokia has announced that it expects to launch 40 new handsets in 2005, as part of its quest to raise its global market share to 40%; about two thirds of the new phones will have cameras and more than half will be clamshell models. Speaking at its investor day in New York, the handset manufacturer revealed it expects growth in the market to slow to 10% next year, and as a result has slashed its R&D budget from 12% of sales to 9% by the end of 2006. It is targeting operating margins in its mobile devices segment of 17%-18% in two years and about 14% in its mobile infrastructure business.
