South Korea’s incumbent telco KT Corp has stated that it will ‘soon’ provide home users in the country with ultra-fast Wi-Fi services and also upgrade 16,000 Wi-Fi hotspots in universities, cafés and hotels. The national demand for wireless internet access services is growing: according to a local government survey of over 3,000 mobile subscribers, 40% of Korean cellphone users regularly access the internet via wireless technology, compared to 27% in March 2002.
