WiMAX comes to UK

4 Nov 2004

UK company Telabria has begun construction of the country’s first commercial WiMAX broadband wireless network. Telabria is rolling out an 802.16-compliant WiMAX system to deliver voice, video and data services to both residential and business users in southeast England. Trials of the network are planned for January, with commercial switch-on expected in mid-2005. The company says WiMAX will not only compete head-on with ADSL but will also provide coverage in rural regions which are currently under-served by high speed networks.
