China Mobile (HK) shuffles its management

3 Nov 2004

China Mobile (HK) has confirmed a major management reshuffle which will see its chairman and CEO, Wang Xiaochu, leaving to become president of China Telecommunications Corp, the state-owned parent of the country’s biggest fixed line carrier, China Telecom Corp. According to local press sources, the government is switching its top managers ahead of the proposed introduction of 3G services. The state hopes to foster a better understanding of each others’ operation, enhance business interconnections, and minimise competition ahead of the launch of UMTS in 2005. The reorganisation will also see Wang Jianzhou, chairman of China Unicom, appointed as chairman and CEO of China Mobile Communications.
