TCC profits soar

2 Nov 2004

Taiwan Cellular Corp (TCC) has reported net profits of TWD5.65 billion (USD170 million) for the three months to the end of September 2004, a rise of a 46% on the same period of 2003, despite total revenues for the period falling by 3% to TWD11.57 billion (USD350 million). The company, which vies for leadership in the Taiwanese cellular market with state-owned Chunghwa Telecom, said average revenue per subscriber (ARPU) rose by 19% in the year. TCC claims its 2004 capex will be around TWD5 billion, down from a previous forecast of TWD7 billion, following its decision in July to delay the launch of 3G services until mid-2005 due to what it termed ‘lukewarm demand’ for the technology from consumers.
