Chinese equipment manufacturer Huawei Technologies has been awarded a contract by Ettihad Etisalat, the Saudi arm of UAE operator Etisalat, to construct a GSM network in the Kingdom. Etisalat heads the consortium which last month was awarded Saudi Arabia’s second mobile phone concession following a successful bid of SAR12.21 billion. Under the contract, Huawei will deliver a full range of GSM equipment for the new network, construction of which is expected to be completed by early next year.
