Croatia’s Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Communications has announced that it has received a request from Optima Telekom for a fixed line telecoms licence. If successful the newcomer would be the first to challenge current monopolist Croatia Telecom. The ministry has 60 days to consider the application and assess whether the company meets the necessary conditions. The licence carries a fee of HRK8 million (EUR1 million). Optima owner Roland Zuvanic, himself a former head of the ministry, claims Optima could be operational by February next year.
