Cameraphones: the fashion accessory of 2004?

27 Oct 2004

The sale of mobile phones with cameras is predicted to hit 159 million units worldwide in 2004, more than double the number sold the previous year, while in Europe the number of cameraphones is predicted to rise by a staggering 400%. According to research from Gartner, recent improvements in imaging technology has made them the ‘must-have’ purchase for fashion victims everywhere. Although the original launch of phones with an in-built camera was blighted by poor quality images and the problem of complexity and expense in sending pictures via MMS, in the last 18 months the situation has changed dramatically. Handset manufacturers have focused their efforts on making new models easier to use, and introduced new features such as rotating screens, removable memory cards and more intuitive controls for sending pictures.
