Hanoi Telecom Corp has said it expects to be awarded a 3G licence in Vietnam by December this year, which will enable it to become the country’s first UMTS operator. The company is currently seeking government approval for a USD656 million deal with Hutchison Whampoa subsidiary Hutchison Telecommunication SARL, which will help it to develop 3G services, and last week it signed a contract with US-based Qualcomm to set up a training centre for CDMA technology.
