VNPT set for reorganisation

22 Oct 2004

The Vietnamese government has announced that the country’s dominant telco, VNPT, is being reorganised, with the group’s telecoms operations to be split into seven regional operations. The state-owned parent company will be the main shareholder in all seven companies, which will be established in the first quarter of 2005. The new telcos will include operators covering Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. VNPT added more than one million new telephone lines during the first half of 2004, helping take its total fixed and wireless subscriber base to 8.3 million.
