20 Oct 2004

According to the Financial Times, pan-African mobile phone operator Celtel is to list on the London Stock Exchange early in 2005, in a move that could value shares held by Mohamed Ibrahim, a former director of BT Cellnet and 25% stakeholder in the African company, up to GBP275 million (USD496 million). Celtel is active in 13 countries on the continent and has around four million customers in a region where cellular penetration lags well behind the world average.
