The Maldives’ only mobile operator Dhiraagu has revealed that there are over 90,000 mobile users in the country, 15,000 of which are contract customers and the remainder pre-paid subscribers. Dhiraagu launched cellular services in the Maldives in October 1999, and has enjoyed a monopoly on the sector ever since, although it is set to face competition before too long with the government currently in the process of awarding a second GSM concession.
