Etapa gears up for mobile launch

18 Oct 2004

Cuenca-based Etapa-Telecom and mobile operator Telecsa have signed a 15-year strategic deal to allow the former to launch wireless services under the brand name Etapamovil. The two will jointly invest USD14.6 million, with Telecsa stumping up USD10 million to get the project off the ground. It hopes to launch on 28 October and plans to secure a share of the market by offering low call charges and pre-paid cards with a twelve-month duration. Pre-paid cards from other cellcos usually expire in 30-45 days.
