tele.ring selects Alcatel for UMTS expansion

13 Oct 2004

Austrian mobile operator tele.ring has awarded Alcatel a USD74 million contract to expand its 3G network. The deal, which includes UMTS radio access network equipment and a transmission solution, will see tele.ring extending its reach to 50% of the territory by the end of 2005. The agreement also includes an extension to Alcatel’s existing service contract for a further three years. The latest deal with the French vendor follows the successful installation of a UMTS upgrade to tele.ring’s GSM/GPRS network in 2003.
