Vendors get sucked into spectrum dispute

The row between CDMA and GSM mobile operators over the allocation of frequency spectrum in India has spread to engulf the industry’s leading equipment manufacturers. While some vendors such as Nokia, Motorola and Nortel Networks advocate developing CDMA equipment for the 1800MHz band, others, including Ericsson, Lucent Technologies and Qualcomm would prefer to see the technology limited to the 1900MHz band only. The dispute between the equipment makers is dividing along similar lines to the GSM and CDMA pressure groups.
