Another fall in handset shipments

7 Oct 2004

Shipments of mobile handsets in Finland fell for the second consecutive month in September, with wholesale deliveries down 4% from September 2003, although this was an improvement on the 6% drop seen in August. The Finnish Association of Electronics Wholesalers says that over 126,000 handsets were delivered to retailers last month, and more than half of these were fitted with cameras. The average price of a phone was around EUR130 before VAT.

In the nine months to the end of September almost one million mobile handsets were shipped, on a par with the same period last year; the Association is forecasting sales of 1.4 million units for the full year. Cellular subscriber growth has been slowing in Finland as the market reaches saturation; the country was home to around 4.8 million mobile subscribers at the end of June, up slightly from 4.75 million six months earlier.
