Connex trumpets Romania’s first video call over 3G

Connex (MobiFon), Ericsson and Siemens have demonstrated video calling over 3G technology in Romania. The trial over the cellco’s UMTS network is the first live demonstration of the technology in Romania and included test calls between the cities of Bucharest, Cluj, Brasov and Craiova, as well as inter-technology tests (GSM-UMTS) and inter-vendor tests (Ericsson – Siemens) to gauge interoperability. Connex intends to bid for a 3G licence; it had 4,089,948 mobile customers as at 30 June 2004.
