29 Sep 2004

Bahraini cellco MTC-Vodafone has contracted Nokia to expand its W-CDMA network, a move which will enable the operator to provide nationwide 3G coverage by the end of the year. Nokia will work together with its value added reseller for networks in the Middle East, Future Communications Company (FCC), which will deliver and implement a complete Nokia radio-access network, including W-CDMA base stations, radio network controllers and other network equipment. MTC-Vodafone was the first operator in the Middle East region to roll out a 3G network in August 2003.
