OMTC launches GPRS

Oman Mobile Telecommunications Company (OMTC) yesterday initiated its commercial GPRS offering and announced the availability of a raft of new wireless data applications for subscribers including MMS, mobile gaming, music downloads, polyphonic ringtones and screensavers. OMTC is currently the only mobile operator in Oman, but this is set to change following the award in June of the country’s second GSM licence to a joint venture between Qatar Telecom (Q-Tel) and Denmark’s TDC.
