Telemar’s broadband base booms

Brazilian telco Telemar has said its broadband customer base grew by 230% to 400,000 in the year to the end of August 2004. The Rio-based company says it is adding around 25,000 new subscribers a month to its Velox broadband service, which it now claims is available in 140 cities nationwide, up from 20 at the start of 2003. Velox is based on ADSL technology and affords maximum download transmission rates of 768kbps.
