MTS to upgrade network in capital

Russia’s biggest cellco Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) has contracted Motorola to upgrade its GSM network in Moscow and the surrounding region to GPRS capable. Under the terms of the USD28 million deal the US vendor will supply and install a complete suite of base stations and core network equipment to provide a substantial capacity upgrade and allow MTS to offer numerous advanced SMS and MMS solutions. Motorola will utilise its new Horizon II infrastructure that can be easily upgraded to EDGE and UMTS capability.
