Brazilian telco GVT has said that it expects to derive 20% of its total revenues from IP telephony by 2006. The operator recently launched a commercial VoIP offering to which it expects to have around 150,000 subscribers by that date, from which it hopes to earn around BAR1.2 billion a year. GVT was established in 1998 as a mirror operator to compete in the local telephony market against Brasil Telecom in nine states covering southern and central-western Brazil. It claims to have invested BAR50 million in its VoIP portfolio to date.
