E-Plus hits nine million target early

20 Sep 2004

German operator E-Plus, a wholly owned subsidiary of Dutch group KPN, declared today that it its subscriber base had breached the nine million mark, some three and a half months ahead of its end-year target. However, the figure still leaves E-Plus some way behind rivals T-Mobile and Vodafone, who claimed 27.0 million and 25.5 million subscribers respectively at the end of June 2004.

E-Plus began offering UMTS mobile data services on a limited basis to corporate customers in June 2004. The cellco plans to have UMTS network coverage of 300 towns and cities, and 300,000 people, by the end of 2004.
