Telkom looking to slash bandwidth prices

16 Sep 2004

Telkom South Africa has asked the Independent Communications Authority of SA (Icasa) for permission to cut its international bandwidth prices by up to 25%. The regulator is expected to approve the new tariffs this week. Telkom’s request comes just two weeks after Icasa began allowing private companies to set up their own networks and charge market-related prices. The incumbent’s high prices and a lack of competition in the marketplace have been blamed for obstructing growth in the sector.
