Telecoms coalition pushes for liberalisation in Asian markets

15 Sep 2004

Seven global telcos – including AT&T, MCI, BT Group, Cable & Wireless and T-Systems among others – have formed a new industry group called the Asia Pacific Carriers Coalition, to push for more liberalisation of the telecoms markets in the Asia Pacific region. The group claims that the larger Asian telcos ‘typically remain dominant in their markets’, even where the sector has been opened up, causing prices to be kept unnecessarily high. It has singled China and India out as two of the worst culprits.
