Orange operating via illegal masts

15 Sep 2004

Partner, the Israeli GSM operator that trades under the Orange brand name, has said that approximately 35% of its base station antennae do not have planning permission and risk being dismantled by the authorities. The sites represent a violation of Israeli Planning and Building Law, leading to demolition orders being imposed on the operator and, in some cases, the filing of criminal charges and civil proceedings against it. To date Partner has been fined almost half a million dollars, although it claims to have reached settlements with the relevant local building authorities to obtain permits or relocate the antennae.
