Telecom eyes EuroTel

13 Sep 2004

Slovak Telecom is rumoured to be close to striking a deal to take full control of mobile operator EuroTel Bratislava by buying the 51% of the cellco that it does not already own from US consortium Atlantic West. Negotiations between the US company and Slovak Telecom’s owners (Deutsche Telekom and the Slovakian government) are said to be at an advanced stage, with the prospective deal being valued at approximately USD300 million. EuroTel had 1.74 million customers at the end of June 2004. Its sole competitor in the Slovakian mobile market, Orange, had just over 2.2 million subscribers at the same date.
