Mobile phone sales in Australia hit record levels in July, fuelling predictions that the country will have more than six million wireless subscribers by the end of the year. Almost 640,000 mobile phones were sold in July, up from 580,000 in the corresponding month last year, according to the Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association. Heavily subsidised handsets have been identified as the main driver of growth.
