LG inks supply deal with Orange

South Korea’s LG Electronics has said that it plans to team up with Orange to launch an assault on the European UMTS handset market. The equipment supplier said that it has already supplied the French cellco with its latest tri-band mobile terminal, the LG U8150, which it unveiled at the recent ITU Telecom Asia event. According to recent research from Strategy Analytics, LG Electronics was the second largest global supplier of UMTS handsets in the second quarter of 2004, having shipped approximately 900,000 units during the three-month period, equal to a market share of around 21.5%.
