Vodafone Spain reveals 3G spending

Vodafone Spain has announced that it is setting aside EUR2.8 billion to invest in the development of its UMTS services until 2008. Vodafone currently offers UMTS in 22 Spanish cities and is aiming to expand coverage to all cities with more than 200,000 inhabitants over the next few months. The operator has around 1,600 3G base stations installed, while its GSM network comprises around 8,000 sites. It is Spain’s number two mobile operator with around 9.5 million active GSM customers at the end of June.
