Smart battles it out with NTC

A full-blown battle is brewing in the Philippines between mobile operator Smart Communications and the regulator the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), with both sides claiming that the other owes them money. Smart, and its subsidiary Piltel, claim that the NTC owes them around PHP600 million due to an overpayment of regulatory and supervisory fees last year. The regulator, on the other hand, says that Smart and Piltel owe it around PHP1 billion in outstanding fees dating back to 1999.
