MCI gets Ericsson Engine

19 Aug 2004

The US long-distance carrier MCI has awarded Swedish manufacturer Ericsson a contract to deploy its Engine solution to migrate international gateway traffic from traditional circuit switching to Voice over IP (VoIP). MCI says the launch of Ericsson’s Engine solution is a key step in its convergence networking strategy, with international voice services being converged onto the telco’s IP backbone. The switch will also allow MCI to begin offering next-generation IP-based services on a global basis. It expects to start the transition of traffic by mid-2005.
