According to Zelkjo Debanic, the president of Croatia’s Telecommunications Council, 15 firms – including existing cellcos Deutsche Telekom subsidiary HTmobile and Mobilkom Austria unit VIPnet – have shown an interest in bidding in the country’s forthcoming GSM licence auction. According to Debanic, the winner of the concession will also have the opportunity to gain a UMTS licence, sparking speculation that HTmobile and VIPnet are looking to enter the 3G arena. The interested parties have until 15 September 2004 to submit bids.
