Broadband subscriptions soar in China

The number of broadband internet users in China is rising at a rate of 40,000 a day, according to a report in the DigiTimes. The total number of subscribers nationwide stood at 17.73 million at the end of June 2004, a rise of 3.74 million users in three months. The country’s largest fixed line operator China Telecom heads the market with a reported 60% of broadband customers under its control, followed by its closest rival in the wireline market, China Netcom.
