Panamanian telco Optynex has revealed plans to launch residential telephony services
using wireless in the local loop technology (WiLL) in early 2005. Over the next three months the company plans to start trialling services on a limited basis, with full deployment planned for both Panama City and Colón by the end of the year. Optynex recently launched local voice services to the corporate segment over its fibre-optic network in Panama City, which it claims reaches around 80% of the high-end corporate market in the capital, despite only having 20% geographical coverage of the city. The company is planning to expand operations to the cities of Agua Dulce, David and Santiago, and also plans to launch voice and data services in Nicaragua in early 2005.
