cablecom eyed by ISPs for last mile access

11 Aug 2004

Swiss internet service providers (ISPs) Init Seven, Cyberlink Internet Services and Netstream have asked the country’s competition commission Weko to conduct an investigation into cablecom’s stranglehold on the so-called ‘last mile’. The ISPs are demanding new regulatory measures to open up all fixed line and cable networks for any operator to use. According to the three petitioners, since cablecom introduced VoIP telephony and double bandwidths, it is effectively offering an alternative to national PTO Swisscom in the last mile.
