MTS expands GSM coverage in Far East and Siberia

Russian cellco Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) says it has teamed up with China’s Huawei Technologies to roll out GSM-900/1800 mobile networks in six regions of Far East Russia and Siberia in 2004. The USD27 million contract will see the Chinese vendor deliver and install equipment and intelligent network (IN) platforms in the republics of Buryatia and Saha, and the regions of Magadan, Chita, Kamchatka and Kemerovo by the end of the year.
